Victim Survey 2024
Task
Each year, the Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales, Baroness Newlove, carries out an annual Victim Survey. This is a unique opportunity for victims of crime to share their experiences and perceptions of the criminal justice system. In 2024, TONIC, was contracted by the Victims’ Commissioner to conduct the survey in order to assist with gathering insights into victims’ experiences.
Our Approach
TONIC hosted the Victim Survey 2024, which was open from 25th November to 31st December 2024. The survey was designed so that anybody who had been a victim of crime or reported a crime in the three years prior was eligible to take part. The survey included questions about victims’ experiences with all aspects of the criminal justice system as well as support services. TONIC ensured the survey was available to complete online, by phone, or in paper form, as well as being available in both English and Welsh in order to maximise reach. TONIC was the responsible for leading the dissemination and promotion of the survey.
Outcome
Over 6,500 victims of crime took part, making this the largest annual victims’ survey to date. Responses were cleaned and anonymised by TONIC and will help shape recommendations to improve support and deliver better justice outcomes for victims in the future.
